About Chris Rand Furniture
In 1994 I gained a City and Guilds Advanced Craft
Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery and passed the
Full Membership examination of the Institute of
Carpenters. Shortly after I worked as a freelance
joiner and over a number of years steadily built a
reputation as a versatile craftsman in the Reading
area. In 2003 I embarked upon the full time BA (Hons)
Furniture Design & Craftsmanship course at
Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College in High
Wycombe, successfully graduating in June 2006.
Chris Rand Furniture was launched in August 2006.
From jewellery box to giant wardrobe the furniture I
make is mostly freestanding and includes tables,
desks, chairs, sideboards, dressers, chests of
drawers and cabinets to store practically anything
that needs putting away out of sight or displaying.
I will always seek to use solid, natural wood and
take particular pleasure in sourcing locally
harvested timbers such as oak, ash, yew, walnut and
cedar. I believe that furniture should be a
celebration of the warmth and beauty of wood -
harmoniously enriching its new environment and
giving pleasure to you as its new owner. It is my
intention to create furniture that is respectful of
the traditions of the craft - incorporating an
understanding of the past in practical designs
intended for modern living - furniture that will
endure the fickle ebb and flow of fashion.
So please take a look at the furniture in my
portfolio and if you
think I can make something for you please
contact me for an informal
discussion about your intended project. |
