Commissioning furniture to be made
Commissioning furniture is a fairly fluid process
and a great opportunity to have something made that
precisely meets your practical requirements as well
as indulging your preferences for a particular
style, timber or other aspect of design. The normal
steps taken to make furniture just how you want it
would be as follows…
- The initial contact by phone or e-mail will
usually be followed by an arranged visit to your
home to see where the furniture is going to be
placed and to informally discuss all of the
practical and aesthetic requirements. I will
show you some wood samples and take any
necessary measurements. An initial design brief
and outline budget can be established at this
stage.
- Over the next week or two I will be
sketching ideas and carrying out any necessary
research. Another meeting will be arranged to
discuss the initial designs and their estimated
costs. Further ideas or suggestions may occur
and we should now be on track to producing a
final design that you will be happy with.
- A design proposal is offered with drawings,
specifications, completion date and total cost.
- If you are happy with what you see and would
like to place an order then a deposit would
enable the work to be scheduled. A further
payment may be asked for when your furniture
starts to be made.
- You would be most welcome to visit the
workshop and see your furniture taking shape.
Indeed, because of the fluid nature of bespoke
work, it may be beneficial for you to see the
furniture as it progresses and discuss any
design choices that may unexpectedly be
presented.
- On completion I will deliver the furniture
and get it settled into its new home.
It is my aim that you will be as proud of your
new furniture as I am for creating it and that it
will serve you well and give you pleasure for many
years to come. If this interests you then do contact
me to discuss your new furniture ideas. |
